Owner/Instructor of Sargent Strings
Allison relocated to Lago Vista, Texas in the summer of 2017 with her two children Cooper and Emma, husband Josh and dogs Mr. Bear and Bubba.
The past 10 years have been spent building a successful music studios in Austin, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Georgetown and now in the hill country of Lago Vista.
A little background, I was born in California and grew up in Arizona. My entire family is musical. Both of my parents were music teachers and my sister and I both studied music in college. I began formal violin lessons at the age of 6 when I was enrolled into private Suzuki violin lessons. I participated in my school orchestras from kindergarten to college and community and professional ensembles on the side. After high school I attended Northern Arizona University on a full ride orchestral performance scholarship. I studied music education and violin performance and ultimately received my Bachelor of Music in instrumental performance degree in 2009.
My focus along side my violin performance degree was obtaining my Suzuki teacher certification and training. I was trained and mentored by Dr. Louise Scott through NAU's longer term teacher training program for Suzuki violin books 1-4+. Other short term Suzuki trainers include Kim Sullivan, Susan Kempter, Bill Dick, and Shelly Rich.
In the past twenty years I have played in a number of school and community orchestra programs earning the position of Concertmaster (first chair violinist) in the Northern Arizona University Symphony and chamber orchestras, Tucson Foothills Philharmonic, Canyon Del Oro Symphonic Orchestras, and in numerous summer institutes across the United States. I have also played as a section violinist for the Flagstaff Arizona Symphony Orchestra, Northern Arizona University Chamber Groups and Orchestra, Tucson Philharmonic, and locally with the Round Rock Symphony Orchestra and Temple Symphony Orchestra.
Over the years my students have ranged from ages 3 to adult and playing at beginner to advanced levels. I have been teaching violin, viola, and cello in the Austin Texas area since 2009. I started as an IMIP instructor at Cedar Ridge High School, Round Rock High School, Hopewell Middle School, and Stony Point High School. I taught lessons and coached / ran master classes for students in Pflugerville and Round Rock on region and all-state excerpts. From there I started teaching from Blackerby Violin Shop (Austin) and Sam Bass Music (Round Rock). Eventually I grew my family and began working from home (Pflugerville). My studio has had up to 45 students attending weekly private and group classes.
In 2016, I pioneered the orchestra program at NYOS charter schools. The program consists of 4 orchestras taught before school. We participate in the Austin Charter School All-Region ensemble events, solo and ensemble festival, and large ensemble festival hosted by the Austin area music education coalition.
Each year I host and run a fun summer fiddle camp! Our week long camp teaches the basics of how to fiddle and play the guitar accompaniment to a variety of fun tunes.
It is my goal to bring the beauty of the violin and other stringed instruments local. I hope to fill our community with a lot of little eager musicians and give adults a moment to relax and escape into making music for themselves.
